GPOI Training Facilities: Kampong Spoe, Cambodia
In 2004, the G8 nations committed to an action plan to expand global capability for peace support operations. The Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) is the U.S. contribution, the primary objective of which is to train and, where appropriate, equip 75,000 Peacekeepers world wide by 2010. The United States Pacific Command (PACOM) works to implement this initiative in the Asia-Pacific Region. Previous exercises have been hosted by Mongolia and Bangladesh and Indonesia hosted the exercise in 2009.
In 2010 the US will lead the training exercise “Angkor Sentinel” in which soldiers from 23 nations will attend. The exercise will last about one month and the USANG from Utah will be the primary trainers.
NAVFAC Site Thailand awarded Intelspec LLC the Design Build contract in the amount of $1,841,162, to construction the following scope of work:
- Seven (7) new barracks to house 686 troops;
- Four (4) Open Training Facilities;
- Renovate three (3) existing office buildings and medical;
- Dining Facility/Kitchen;
- Wash Facilities and Bathrooms;
- New access roads;
- Troop Assembly Area;
- New Electrical Distribution System; and
- New Water Storage (120,000 L) and distribution system;
